Jesus Christ proved His divinity

Biblical proof of the divinity of Jesus Christ

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, eternally begotten. He is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact imprint of His nature, according to Hebrews 1:3. Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

The apostle Paul says that God made the world through His Son.
Hebrews 1:2: Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.

Parallel between the Father and the Son

God and Jesus as co-workers

1 Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Five biblical arguments

    1. Jesus affirms Himself as God, able to forgive sins
Matthew 9:2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.
    2. He has angels under His authority to carry out His plans
      Matthew 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

He gave the signs of the end times, including the universal preaching of the gospel, in Matthew 24 and Matthew 25.

The parable of the ten virgins is often misinterpreted. It is compared with the parable of the wheat and the tares.

Explanation of the parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1–13)
The five foolish virgins symbolize people in the church who are careless, negligent, disobedient, and imprudent: the visible church.
The five wise virgins symbolize Christians who are persevering, prudent, diligent, and responsible: the invisible, authentic church.

Explanation of the parable of the wheat and the tares (Matthew 13:24–43)
The wheat represents the church, and the tares represent the world or unbelievers.

    3. His silence fulfills the Messianic prophecy of Isaiah 53:7
Matthew 26:63–65 But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

Matthew tells us that Jesus answered, “Thou hast said:” (Matthew 26:64), whereas Mark tells us that Jesus answered, “I am:” (Mark 14:62).
As explained in one of the previous studies, the two Gospels complement each other.

    4. Jesus does everything that the Father does
John 5:21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

Adam’s disobedience led not to physical death but to spiritual death.
Genesis 2:17: “…for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

Through Jesus, who raises the dead and gives life, we have been raised from this spiritual death caused by the first Adam.

    5. Jesus makes Himself God
John 10:32–33 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

Jesus died for three reasons

  1. Human reason
He claimed to be God (John 10:30).
He violated the Sabbath (John 5:8–10).
He insulted the Pharisees by calling them whitewashed tombs (Matthew 23:27).
  2. Evil (demonic) reason
Satan was hiding behind all the Jewish movements to persecute Jesus indirectly.
This began in the Garden of Eden, when God pronounced the first judgment against the serpent: “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring…” (Genesis 3:15).
Satan made several attempts against Jesus. When he used Herod to kill all the children two years old and under in Bethlehem, it was the offspring of the woman that he was seeking.
Through His resurrection, Jesus gained victory over the offspring of the serpent.
  3. Divine reason
The death of Jesus was a divine verdict.
Luke 9:22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.

The salvation of humanity was conditioned on the death of Jesus.

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
